45 meters above Alba
Guided tour of the bell tower of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo
There are two visiting shifts: 3.30pm and 5.00pm
On Sunday, June 14, the MUDI – Alba Diocesan Museum is offering guided tours of the
Romanesque bell tower of Alba Cathedral. Diocesan Museum guides will accompany you up to the 45-
meter height, climbing the ancient staircase built between the two 10th- and 12th-century bell towers. This will be
an opportunity to appreciate the recently restored columns of the mullioned windows on the first level.
The conservative restoration and structural consolidation work was essential to
restore the cohesion of the stone elements and to prevent the risk of detachment and dangerous
falling fragments.
After admiring the city of Alba from above, you'll descend and continue with a visit to the
archaeological trail located in the basement of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. This will allow you to discover
important relics from the Roman and medieval eras, including the paving of the Alba
Pompeia decumanus and the 6th-century baptismal font.
The afternoon will conclude, for all participants, with a snack in the flower garden of the
Cathedral rectory, where you can enjoy fresh herbal teas and local products.
