Investiture of the Podestà

This is an interpretation of the legend that tells the origin of the city's Palio degli Asini.

The protagonists of the ceremony are the Podestà, the highest civil office in medieval cities, and the Lady of Alba, an allegorical figure traditionally dressed in red and white enamel representing the city. Her interpreter is chosen by the Borgo that won the previous year's Palio. They receive homage and the act of submission from the nine Borgos, represented by rulers, banners, and noble couples.
