Civic Museum
Tuesday to Thursday: 3.00pm – 6.00pm
Saturday and Sunday: 10.00am – 7.00pm
Founded in 1897 by Federico Eusebio, the Museum began as a historical-archaeological collection. In 1976, it moved to its current location and expanded with new sections dedicated to the natural history of the area. The reorganization integrates the original core with artifacts unearthed during excavations over the past thirty years, which have deepened our understanding of local prehistory and the Roman city.
The core of the museum remains archaeology, divided into a prehistoric section (with Neolithic finds and artifacts from the Alba area) and a Roman section that chronicles the life and prosperity of ancient Alba Pompeia. Next to this, the natural sciences section features geology, zoology, and botany rooms. The collections are vast: only about 5% are on display, with periodic rotations, while the entire collection is open to scholars. Overall, the museum offers a broad understanding of the naturalistic and historical evolution of the local environment.
The museum entrance is located in the historic center of Alba, in the Cortile della Maddalena and is easily accessible from both Via Vittorio Emanuele 19 and Piazzetta Giovanni Falcone.
The museum is closed on Mondays.
