Environmental Crimes: Communities, Bodies, and Law

What if the most serious environmental damage were precisely that which was perfectly legal? For years, a factory could provide jobs and wealth while poisoning those who live next door, without anyone calling that damage a crime. Who , then, decides what constitutes a crime ? And who has the right to be recognized as a victim? Starting from the stories of communities living with pollution, this article attempts to examine environmental damage for what it is: a question of power , bodies , and knowledge . Because often, those who suffer the damage know about it long before those who should recognize it. And perhaps the question is not only how and what we are willing to punish, but what we are willing to see.
