On Saturday, August 27, 2022, during the " Orti Aperti " initiative, a group of " Biodiversity Storytellers " presented the first experience of tourist storytelling in some of the Langhe and Roero vegetable gardens, presenting the region and its products through sensory exploration.

The activities promoted by the Municipality of Alba in collaboration with the GAL Langhe Roero Leader on the theme of agri-food biodiversity continue through a process of promoting local agricultural products, from farm to table. These activities include activities for children, such as the "ORTOgrafia" project, walks in search of wild herbs, and picnics featuring local vegetables for tourists and residents, such as the "Livertin Experience" and "Picnic in the Vineyard" events, as well as training courses for tourism professionals aimed at training "Biodiversity Storytellers."

To conclude the "Storytellers of Biodiversity" tour, a group of guides, companions, truffle judges, and horticulturists (Elena Pavese, Stefania Giacosa, Giovanni Cometti, Faith Wangay, Anna Genta, Stefano Cometti, Anca Draghincescu, and Dario Bruno) created two itineraries through the farms of the "Orto del Marinè" farm (Pocapaglia), the "Bosco delle Galline Volanti" farm (La Morra), and the "Succolento" farm (Alba)—selected following a specific public expression of interest—providing visitors with a narrative on the value of sustainably cultivated and nature-friendly vegetable gardens. The story of the gardens was then enriched by an educational sensory experience related to the identification of aromatic herbs, created in collaboration with the staff of "Il Bosco delle Galline Volanti" and "Succolento."

The City of Alba's Councilor for Tourism and the President of the GAL Langhe Roero Leader are proud to participate in this Alcotra project and emphasize
the importance of continuing in this direction, to raise awareness among an increasingly wider audience about the importance of protecting local biodiversity, which begins in the land and ends up on our tables.

The City of Alba, as the creator and promoter of the initiative, together with its partner GAL Langhe Roero Leader, aims to continue organizing future days dedicated to the Langhe and Roero vegetable gardens, open to visitors. Qualified and specially trained professionals will raise awareness of the value of protecting the land and the fruits it can produce.

“Orti Aperti” is part of the “ Biodiversità Stellata/Biodiversité Étoilée ” project funded by the Interreg VA France-Italy ALCOTRA 2014-2020 programme as part of the partnership activities involving the Municipality of Alba as lead partner, the GAL Langhe Roero Leader, the Municipality of Cogne, the Ville de La Motte-Servolex and the Commune du Bourget-du-Lac.
