The Alba-based ORTOgrafia project was chosen by UNESCO to be presented in Brazil at the XIV World Conference on Creative Cities
The delegation representing Alba at the 14th UNESCO World Conference on Creative Cities in Santos, Brazil , presented the ORTOgrafia project, chosen among the most important worldwide on resilience and action with respect to the climate issue.
Stefania Balocco, President of the Environment Commission , was tasked with presenting the Alba project, which is based on leveraging the city's cultural and creative resources and local potential to address contemporary urban challenges. Conceived as part of the Alba Creative City program, it is the result of a collaboration between the Municipality of Alba , the Sinergie Outdoor association chef Enrico Crippa 's vegetable garden , the Ceretto family , chef Luciano Tona , and the comprehensive schools .
ORTOgrafia is part of the “Biodiversità Stellata/Biodiversité Étoilée” and was funded by the Interreg VA France-Italy ALCOTRA 2014-2020 programme as part of the partnership activities involving the Municipality of Alba as lead partner, the GAL Langhe Roero Leader, the Municipality of Cogne, the Ville de La Motte-Servolex and the Commune du Bourget-du-Lac.
Launched on an experimental basis in the summer of 2021, it includes three phases : an initial experience discovering the garden of Enrico Crippa, three-Michelin-starred chef of the Piazza Duomo restaurant, a second moment of play and discovery of the value of land and water at the "Le Colline di Giuca" educational park in Baldissero d'Alba, and the final act based on the experience of cooking with vegetables.
The presentation and greeting on behalf of the City of Alba brought by Councilor Stefania Balocco were accompanied by a video intervention by the Councilor for Tourism and Creative Cities Emanuele Bolla .
Councilor Emanuele Bolla explains: "This award has been given to a project of great value, one we hold dear, the fruit of the collaborative efforts of many professionals, to whom we extend our sincere thanks. UNESCO's interest is gratifying and encourages us to do even more to raise awareness worldwide of Alba's ability to look to the future in an innovative way, while always keeping our feet firmly planted on the ground—in this case, in the local gardens and biodiversity. We are preparing, thanks also to our collaboration with Councilor Elisa Boschiazzo, to reintroduce ORTOgrafia to our students, who will have the opportunity to appreciate this project, which UNESCO has designated as one of the most significant in the world."
" The ORTOgrafia project Stefania Balocco, President of the Environment Commission , " has attracted considerable attention from the UNESCO Secretariat and all participants. We are proud to have brought this project, in which we strongly believe, to the UNESCO International Conference of Creative Cities. Its aim is to educate primary school children on the importance of protecting biodiversity through practical experiences, including learning how to grow a vegetable garden, but not only that. Thanks to the ORTOgrafia project, new generations will be trained and educated to care for the land, the environment around us, and the risks that climate change can pose to crops and, consequently, to food. And it is with projects like this that we get closer to building a society based on sustainable development and increasingly resilient to the serious impacts of climate change. I also wanted to thank the City Council, particularly Mayor Carlo Bo and Councilor Emanuele Bolla, who gave me the opportunity to participate in the Annual Conference on Creative Cities. A special thanks to Camilla Parodi for her support and preparation during this event." experience in Santos ”.
