"Picnic in the Vineyard" Tourists and residents of Alba discover biodiversity among the rows of vines in Alba's urban vineyards
On Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 April 2022, 100 people participated in the “ Picnic in the vineyard ”, an initiative developed by the Tourism Department of the Municipality of Alba within the ALCOTRA cross-border cooperation programme “Biodiversità Stellata/Biodiversité Étoilée” .
The participants, accompanied by a nature guide and students from the “Umberto I” High School , had the opportunity to discover Alba's urban vineyard by strolling among its rows and through the cellar rooms, and then enjoying a picnic-style lunch box featuring wild herbs and typical seasonal products.
In line with the program's objectives, the "Picnic in the Vineyard" project—like the "Livertin Experience"—aims to raise awareness of the value of biodiversity for the local area and its people, promoting the city's urban vineyard and raising awareness among residents about choosing healthy and sustainable foods. A simple stroll through the school's vineyards and a lunch featuring local produce thus become a different way to enhance the biodiversity of our rural areas, rediscovering the green spaces just steps from the city center.
The Tourism Councillor highlighted the great success of the initiative which contributed to valorising the theme of biodiversity on the plate and to making the urban vineyard known to the people of Alba and tourists who responded in large numbers to the event and who gave positive feedback regarding the quality of the offer presented.
The event was funded by the Interreg VA France-Italy ALCOTRA 2014-2020 as part of the partnership activities involving the Municipality of Alba as lead partner, the GAL Langhe Roero Leader , the Municipality of Cogne , the Ville de La Motte-Servolex and the Commune du Bourget-du-Lac .
