Temple of St. Paul

Father Giacomo Alberione thought "big": in post-World War I Italy, he sensed that "good press" could become a mission. He chose St. Paul as his model and desired a church in Alba as the spiritual heart of Paul's work. The cornerstone, a brick from the Holy Door of St. Paul Outside the Walls, was laid on April 1, 1925; after a pause, work resumed in 1926, and on October 28, 1928, the church was opened for worship by Bishop Francesco Re.

Alberione presented it as a church of prayer for Catholic missionaries and journalists, with perpetual adoration entrusted to the Pious Disciples of the Divine Master. The high altar was consecrated in 1941; Virgilio Audagna's "Glory of St. Paul" arrived in 1946. In 1964, on the 50th anniversary of the Pauline foundation (1914), the church was the center of celebrations. In 1990, after the post-Vatican II renovation, Msgr. Giulio Nicolini solemnly consecrated it. Today it is an open oratory: masses, reconciliation, and daily adoration.
