Social Theater
Opening hours may vary depending on ongoing events
The “Giorgio Busca” Social Theatre is one of Alba : every year it hosts a quality programme that alternates theatrical performances, concerts, presentations, meetings and conferences , becoming a stable point of reference for city life.
Its uniqueness lies in its dual architectural configuration: on one side, the historic 19th-century horseshoe-shaped hall (Sala Marianna Torta Morolin ), and on the other, a modern hall with stalls and a gallery (Sala M. Abbado ). Between the two, a single central stage connects the old and new and, on special occasions, also allows for a 360° performance with audiences seated in both halls: a rare solution that makes the Teatro Sociale a unique structure in Europe .
The history of the Teatro Sociale is literally that of “a theatre born twice”: it was built and inaugurated in 1855 and, after a long process of restoration and expansion, it reopened in its renovated form in 1997 , maintaining the original “Italian-style” layout and adding new spaces to accommodate an ever-larger audience.
In 2025, Alba will celebrate 170 years since the inauguration of the Teatro Sociale, confirming its role as a cultural symbol of the city and also highlighting the presence of additional spaces such as an outdoor arena and a practicable roof , designed for small outdoor events and new forms of enjoyment.
