Door of Light

In Alba, along Corso Europa, "Porta di Luce" is a monumental installation replacing the boundary wall of the former Govone barracks. In place of the barrier, a continuous passageway of approximately 51 meters has been created, restoring views and a passage between the city and the citadel of studies, home to the "L. Cocito" Scientific High School and the "P. Gallizio" Art High School.

Created by artist Samuel Di Blasi with architect Ugo Costantino and inaugurated on November 23, 2024, the work is a long metallic "writing": a ribbon of organic shapes, without beginning or end, which transforms a military border into a public threshold.

Created using artistic lost-wax casting in aluminum with a brushed finish, by day it captures the sky and the movement of traffic; by night, the light complements it and makes it dramatic, casting a pattern of shadows on the ground. It is designed to be walked on. More than a monument to be admired, it is an "inhabitable" work: it invites you to pass through, pause, and reconnect past, present, and future.
