A child of light who watches over the city
In Piazza Michele Ferrero , at the center of the circular fountain, stands " Alba ," a sculpture by Valerio Berruti. The 12.5-meter-tall profile of a young girl in bronzed stainless steel, as essential as a handwritten sign, leans toward the water in a silent, concentrated gesture.
By day, the sculpture resembles an enlarged pencil line lightly sketching the air: an elegant, almost suspended presence that changes depending on where you stand. In the evening, however, something different happens: the lighting stitches together its contours Langhe horizon .
The name plays on two levels, and holds them together effortlessly: Alba is the city, but it's also a girl's name. A delicate way to focus on the idea of childhood and the future.
The work was donated to the community in memory of Michele Ferrero : on the fountain basin, a bas-relief portrays him as a child.
Around it, a ring of seats invites you to stop and gaze at the reflection the water gives off, which changes every hour. One side is deliberately incomplete: an invitation to complete it with your gaze and imagination.
Unveiled in 2022, “Alba” has quickly become a contemporary symbol of the city.
