Violetta Valéry is one of the most admired women in Parisian high society. At a party, she meets Alfredo Germont, a young man who truly loves her and who, with the strength of his feelings, convinces her to change her life. The two take refuge in the countryside to live their love far from it all. But their happiness is short-lived: Alfredo's father comes to Violetta and asks her, for the sake of his family, to give up his son. She silently and painfully agrees. Alfredo, unaware of her sacrifice, feels betrayed and humiliates her in front of everyone. Only later does he discover the truth and rush to her. But Violetta is gravely ill, and there is just time for one last, tender reunion. She will die in the arms of the man she loved, leaving behind the poignant beauty of a love stronger than convention.
