The term ecomafia was coined by Legambiente in 1994. Since the first report on eco-mafias, published in 1997, crimes have steadily increased. In 2024, they exceeded 40,000 offenses, highlighting a strong connection between the mafia, corruption, and environmental contracts. National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor Giovanni Melillo explains how to interpret this phenomenon and defend the territories.
